St. HOPE Public School 7 in Sacramento

St. HOPE Public School 7 (PS7) is a K-8 charter school located in Sacramento. It was recently highlighted in a report by the California Charter Schools Association that looked at schools that are highly effective in educating African American students. See a video about the report.

"If you are a parent in Sacramento county, charter schools are your northern star," said Margaret Fortune, founder of Fortune Schools. "If you are a parent that is making the decision, it is your choice. It is about your children and following what is best for them, even if it takes courage."

"We believe that black and Latino kids have to have an opportunity to succeed and achieve the American dream. If you look at the achievement gap in Sacramento, there is an 151 point gap between black kids and white kids. Over the last eight years, that gap has closed five points. At that rate, it will take 258 years to close the achievement gap. I don't know about you, but I'm not waiting that long," said Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, one of the founders of PS7.
